Okoloba/Sabagreia Christmas Athletics Celebrations

Every Yuletide seems to come with diverse and breathtaking events, festivals, and programs to commemorate the season of celebration in the Christendom. And Sabagreia and Okoloba Communities are no exceptional.

"When you think of a place to go during yuletide where you can see all the actions and attractions of sports live, it is always Sabagreia that comes into your mind because of the Okoloba/Sabagreia Christmas Athletics Celebration." These were the words of a Facebook user who attended the Athletics in Sabagreia last year.

The popular Christmas Athletics Celebration of Sabagreia and Okoloba communities in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was founded in the year 2003 by the distinguished Sabagreia Community Development Chairman(CDC), Chief G. P. Apuge who is also a renowned sportsman. As an athlete, Chief G. P. Apuge represented the old Rivers State in High jump and four hundred meters at the Nigerian Schools Sports Federation in Oyemeku 80, Akure, Ondo State, in 1980, and Olumo, 81, Abeokuta, Ogun State in 1981.

As Chairman of the committee in charge of the Okoloba/Sabagreia Christmas Athletics Celebration, Chief G. P. Apuge and his well respected members of the committee worked for 12 years in organising the celebrations annually before handing over leadership to the youth body of the two communities under the chairmanship of Mr Esimein Ikokou-owei in 2015. Currently, the chairmanship of the committee rests on the shoulders of Mr Ebikoina Ajoko.

Various events that feature during the celebration are: inter-compound swimming competition, inter-compound relay, 100 meters, 400 meters, to marathon race, inter-compound football competitions, candle night procession and a host of exciting events. The apex of all these events has always been football which is the world's most popular sport today.

Sabagreia and Okoloba communities are a sports loving communities in Bayelsa State. Each year, each community comes out with their representatives to pertake in the activities of during the competitions. The games and especially football in Sabagreia and Okoloba communities have overtime attracted a lot of visitors from neighboring communities and States to storm Sabagreia community during the festive period to watch the all exciting and professional games. Often times, the football playground in Sabagreia is overpopulated due to its small nature. And indeed, communities like Sabagreia need a better stadium.

This year's events began today with a fitness race where both old and young came out in mass in white sportswears and ran across the two communities at the early hours of the day.

This evening shall have a football match between the defending champions, Kala Fc, and Kuro-egbe Fc.

A Facebook business page, simply known as Barent Media, recently updated their profile which got viral and left many people thinking. When the issue of sex is mentioned, there are different conceptions from different peoples and cultures which stern from religious beliefs and practices. On their page, Barent Media went on to say that SEX IS FOOD!!!!! "Sex is not all about making children. You must be a different woman to your husband every time. Hon. Fafi storms Okoloba and Sabagreia Communities with Flood relief materials.

Hon. Wisdom Fafi, the flag bearer of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2019 House of Assembly elections, storms communities in Kolokuma Opokuma Opokuma Constituency 2 of Bayelsa State with flood relief items. Fafi has since Wednesday 17, begun the distribution of flood relief items to the communities in the KOLGA Constituency 2 which include, Opokuma, Okoloba, Sabagreia, and Igbedi, and it seems he's still on the ride to supplying more items. Hon Fafi, accompanied with political stalwarts moved from community to community to supply food and other related materials to victims of the flood in the area. He also gave supply of food and other related items to non-indegen communities, adding that we must be our brother's keeper.
